Motion sensors are usually installed on the sides of the door and use a microwave beam to detect when something moves into the immediate vicinity. They work by measuring the reflection off a moving object.
Motion sensors are useful for providing seamless entry and exit. The doors will open as someone approaches, meaning they can enter the premises without breaking their stride.
However, one of the problems with motion sensors is that they may not detect someone who approaches the door very slowly. This is why radio wave-based motion sensors are often combined with infrared sensors.
Infrared sensors use passive infrared technology to detect sudden changes of temperature. Humans give off a heat signature that is detected by the sensors as they approach the door.
Pressure sensors are usually disguised as mats placed on either side of the door. The sensor detects weight — when you stand on the mat, the sensor detects that you have approached the door and wish to enter.

Once the sensor has detected someone approaching, it will communicate with the gear motor. The gear motor will activate the rubber belts and pulleys that control the opening and closing motion of the doors. There are rollers on the bottom of the door, which help them to move smoothly.
